Syrian government ‘profits from enforced disappearances’

Accusations have emerged from human rights activists that SARG is profiting from returning people they have “disappeared” into their prisons and detention areas. Amnesty International claims that prison staff and government officials have used the detention and returning of peaceful civilians to generate large sums of money. The people being arrested and released vary from, as BBC states, “demonstrators, human rights activists, journalists, doctors and humanitarian workers.”
